Welcome! Meet Katie Nelson, Founder of the
Dyslexia & Dyscalculia Academy

Welcome to the Dyslexia & Dyscalculia Academy—a place where support, understanding, and empowerment come together for parents, educators, and adults navigating the challenges and opportunities of dyslexia and dyscalculia.

I have to say, that I do wear a few different hats in this area....let me explain. As a parent, I know how overwhelming it can be to watch a child struggle with these learning differences. I’ve walked that path with my own daughter, feeling the frustration of wanting to help but not knowing where to start. That personal journey ignited my passion and inspired me to create a space where families, educators, and individuals can find the guidance and resources they need.

With over two decades of experience in education, including roles as a classroom teacher, School SENDCo, SEND School Advisor, and as an experienced Level 7 Specialist in Dyslexia and Dyscalculia, I’ve worked alongside countless incredible teachers and school staff. One thing that always frustrated me was seeing these dedicated professionals eager to support their students but unable to access manageable training that fit alongside their demanding roles. That’s why I designed our Level 4 Certificate in Dyslexia Awareness, Comprehensive Screening, and Targeted Intervention—an accredited course specifically tailored for busy educators, SENDCos, and teaching assistants, enabling them to make a real impact without compromising their workload.

The Academy offers two unique areas of support:

1. Specialist Screenings and Assessments:
We provide dyslexia and dyscalculia specialist screenings and full diagnostic assessments for children and adults, helping to uncover the root of learning challenges and offering clear, actionable solutions.

2. Comprehensive Support Services:
For Parents and Students: From 1:1 specialist tutoring to membership access to our Academy benefits—masterclasses, multi-sensory sessions, emotional support courses, and more—our focus is on empowering both parents and children.

For Adults: Through tailored services like Study Skills Support Sessions, Workplace Needs Assessments, and our Neuropreneur Collective, we’re here to support neurodiverse individuals, entrepreneurs, and business owners in achieving their goals.
For Educators: Our accredited training equips teachers, SENDCos, and support staff with the skills to confidently identify and support dyslexic and dyscalculic learners, transforming classroom practice and outcomes.
This is more than an academy—it’s a community. Whether you’re a parent looking for answers, an adult seeking support, or a teacher striving to make a difference, we’re here to walk this path with you. Together, we can celebrate strengths, tackle challenges, and unlock potential.
